Advent pt. 2

Mark Heger continues preaching through Advent while studying the Old Testament tabernacle. This week we take a look at the Ark of the Covenant and the Mercy Seat as we gain a better understanding of the “holiness” of God.

(We accidentally missed the opening of this sermon. It was a description of the Tabernacle, which you can find at the beginning of Mark’s first sermon on Advent as well!)

Advent pt. 1

Group’s Director Mark Heger kicked off our Advent series this week in a radical way - through the picture of the tabernacle. Exodus 40:16-33. To read the sermon, click HERE.

Access to the Father pt. 1

Elder Jerry Williams calls us to picture Jesus on the cross in order to remind us of God’s love for us. Even though access to the Father can feel challenging, Jerry calls us to lay down our striving, because the truth is that God is readily available to us.

Mo Lawson took us through Ephesians 2:11-16, describing the hostility that once existed between the Jews and Gentiles, and how Christ redeemed that hostility into peace.  We then talked about how this peace extends to us today and what we can do practically to walk out in it.

Two Kingdoms

Our Lead Pastor, John Bower spoke this week on how the book of Ephesians paints a picture of two kingdoms. Through Christ, God has made it possible to breathe in the atmosphere of His kingdom, mercy, all because of His grace (Ephesians 2:4-10).

Heavenly Places

This weeks’ message was an important message about our church’s view of the Story of God. The Bible is one unified story about God’s plan to rescue the world through Christ Jesus and to reintegrate heaven and earth together forever (Ephesians 2:1-7). We also made an announcement this week about some staff transitions happening at our church. If you would like to read the blog post about those transitions, click HERE.

Dr. Paul Sloan helped explain security of believers found in Ephesians 1. Using broad brushstrokes from Genesis to Romans, Dr. Sloan answered what we are secured from, what we are secured for and why we've been secured in the first place.

Changed People Change the World

This week we examined one of the roles the church plays in Christ’s cosmic redemption - prayer. In Ephesians and knowing the church’s location in Christ, Paul primarily prayed for the hearts of God’s people. Changed people change the world (Ephesians 1:1-15)

Reason to Praise

With the backdrop of the cosmic work of Christ, we looked at the work the church does on earth - praise. This week Pastor John gave us two reasons specifically to praise the Lord - He is good and He is in control (Ephesians 1:1-15 Ephesians 1:22; Ephesians 2:1-2; Ephesians 3:10; Ephesians 6:11). For more resources to help you dive into Ephesians with us, click HERE.
