Joy!

This week Pastor John preached on one of the main results of Jesus' Advent - Joy! We can have joy in what He has done, why He did it, and what He will do. Gratitude and thankfulness are ways we walk in joy (Luke 2:10; John 15:11; Romans 15:13; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; 1 John 2:1-2; 1 John 3:1; Romans 8:28).

How Long, Oh LORD? / Prepare Him Room

On the second Sunday of Advent, Pastor John taught how advent is a tool to help us identify with the groans of creation. From terrorist attacks in San Bernardino, Paris and Beirut, or to our own frailty and sin, Advent helps us cry out "How Long, Oh LORD?" And it gives us a heart to prepare Him room in our hearts, ready for His second coming (Habakkuk 1:2; Romans 7:15-20; Romans 8:18; John 14:3; 2 Peter 3:14).

Unity

This week John concluded our sermon series on Offense by preaching on unity. Jesus prayed that we would be one (John 17:20-24) and then the Father answered His request (Ephesians 4:1-6) because it was essential to the mission of the church. The challenge for us is to move from pseudo unity to a genuine expression of being one spirit, one purpose and one heart (Acts 2:42-47; Acts 4:31-35).

Transitions

Pastor Joshua continues the series on Offense by preaching about the purpose of transitions. God uses transitions to bridge the past with the future.  Ultimately, no matter how good or bad the transition is, God wants to use it to mature us so we are equipped to be on mission for him.  Transition invites evaluation, evaluation precedes maturity, and maturity equips us for offense.

Destroying the Works of the Devil, Part II

This Sunday, John again preached on Jesus' continued mission of destroying the works of the devil. Within a biblical worldview, we see that all of our lives involve a continual battle between the Father of Lights and the father of lies. For Christians, the majority of our warfare is against the daily desires of our flesh and is combated by humble obedience to Christ. (Ephesians 4:11-12; John 1:5; Psalm 119:105; Matthew 5:14; Acts 19:11-16; 1 John 3:8; James 1:17; John 8:44; Romans 5:10)

Destroying the Works of the Devil

This week Pastor John taught on about how Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil and how He continues to do that today through the local church. When we have a biblical worldview, we realize that our lives are in a battle between the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness. And we share in His light as we allow Him to advance His kingdom through us (Mark 1:27, 32-34; 1 John 1:5, 3:8; Acts 16:16-18; Matthew 10:7-8; Ephesians 6:12; Colossians 1:13-14, 2:13-15)

Doing Good Works

This week John taught through Luke and Acts to describe how the church continues to do good works as a way to advance the mission of God. Christ's Good works are public display of the Kingdom of God coming to Earth. In order for us to continue these works we need, God's heart, God's power and faith - the conduit through which God operates (Luke 4:40-43; Acts 3:1-20)
