Today Pastor John reminds us of two things. The first is something that we set out to do at the beginning of this year: Increase our passion and love for Jesus and to position our hearts to know Him more. A greater passion for Jesus actually comes as a result of being with Jesus. Our ultimate purpose is to know Him, become like Him in increasing measures, and to be about His purposes on the earth. We can't take the land unless we have an unshakable confidence in the nature of God, and we only gain that through truly knowing Him. The second reminder is: God is attracted to a broken and contrite heart. Our sin is no surprise to God, but when He sees a broken heart over our sin, He graciously rushes towards us with mercy and forgivenness. Brokenness means that we acknowledge our need for a savior and that His ways are higher that ours. Jesus said to Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Then Paul, knowing that God runs towards those who acknowledge their need for God, said "Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
