The Fear of the Lord

John preaches on the fear of the Lord in today's message.  He distinguishes between having a fear of men and having a healthy fear of the Lord.  Fear of man is being more impressed with man's response to our actions than being impressed with God's response to our actions.  Psalm 111:10 says that "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."  Isaiah 6:3 tells us that God is Holy and that the only appropriate response when we consider and encounter the holiness of God is to bow our knees, yield our lives, and acknowledge in our hearts that He is God and we are not.  Our response to the holiness of God is a good indication of whether we fear Him or not.  John finally reminds us the true love for God manifests itself in willing  obedience.  The more we experience and see God as He really is, the more we will have an appropriate fear of Him, be more willing to obey Him, and therefore, bring Him more glory and increasingly experience His love, grace, and joy.
