John teaches though the first of four parables in Mark 4:1-20. Jesus speaks with parables in order to fulfill the prophesy from Isaiah 6:9-10. John explains that parables are used to cause the hungry to seek more, and as a warning to those who misunderstand, exposing their hard-heartedness towards God. Jesus describes the Word of God being scattered throughout a field. Four senarios follow, only one of which leads to bearing fruit, 30, 60 and 100 fold. The call for all Christians is to hold fast to the Word of God and patiently bear fruit with endurance.
